On methods for solving the oceanic equations of motion in generalized vertical coordinates

چکیده
We note that there are essentially two methods of solving the hydrostatic primitive equations in general vertical coordinates: the quasi-Eulerian class of algorithms are typically used in quasi-stationary coordinates (e.g. height, pressure, or terrain following) coordinate systems; the quasi-Lagrangian class of algorithms are almost exclusively used in layered models and is the preferred paradigm in modern isopycnal models. These approaches are not easily juxtaposed. Thus, hybrid coordinate models that choose one method over the other may not necessarily obtain the particular qualities associated with the alternative method. We discuss the nature of the differences between the Lagrangian and Eulerian algorithms and suggest that each has its benefits. The arbitrary Lagrangian–Eulerian method (ALE) purports to address these differences but we find that it does not treat the vertical and horizontal dimensions symmetrically as is done in classical Eulerian models. This distinction is particularly evident with the non-hydrostatic equations, since there is explicitly no symmetry breaking in these equations. It appears that the Lagrangian algorithms can not be easily invoked in conjunction with the pressure method that is often used in non-hydrostatic models. We suggest that research is necessary to find a way to combine the two viewpoints if we are to develop models that are suitable for simulating the wide range of spatial and temporal scales that are important in the ocean. 2005 Elsevier Ltd. Theory of Generalized Piezoporo Thermoelasticity
In this paper, the basic constitutive equations and equations of motion are derived to describe the behavior of thermoelastic porous piezoelectric medium by using Biot’s theory and the theory of generalized thermoelasticity with on relaxation time (Lord-Shulman). The electrical enthalpy density function is derived in the general coordinates. Also, clear definitions for the poroelastic modulus, ...
متن کاملThe smoothed particle hydrodynamics method for solving generalized variable coefficient Schrodinger equation and Schrodinger-Boussinesq system
A meshless numerical technique is proposed for solving the generalized variable coefficient Schrodinger equation and Schrodinger-Boussinesq system with electromagnetic fields. The employed meshless technique is based on a generalized smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH) approach. The spatial direction has been discretized with the generalized SPH technique. Thus, we obtain a system of ordinary...

In this paper, a new approach for solving the second order fuzzy differential equations (FDE) with fuzzy initial value, under strongly generalized H-differentiability is presented. Solving first order fuzzy differential equations by extending 1-cut solution of the original problem and solving fuzzy integro-differential equations has been investigated by some authors (see for example cite{darabi...
متن کاملOn the numerical solution of generalized Sylvester matrix equations
The global FOM and GMRES algorithms are among the effective methods to solve Sylvester matrix equations. In this paper, we study these algorithms in the case that the coefficient matrices are real symmetric (real symmetric positive definite) and extract two CG-type algorithms for solving generalized Sylvester matrix equations. The proposed methods are iterative projection metho...
متن کاملPreconditioned Generalized Minimal Residual Method for Solving Fractional Advection-Diffusion Equation
Introduction Fractional differential equations (FDEs) have attracted much attention and have been widely used in the fields of finance, physics, image processing, and biology, etc. It is not always possible to find an analytical solution for such equations. The approximate solution or numerical scheme may be a good approach, particularly, the schemes in numerical linear algebra for solving ...
